Welcome Reader:

Whether you've just now tuned in to my life, or have been keeping up with my inner thoughts for quite some time now,
I welcome you.

Though you may or may not be entertained by my thoughts, it is for MYSELF that I pen a blog.

As a writer, I enjoy expressing myself.
When I write long romance novels, I am inside my head so much, I forget to focus on reality.

By writing once and a while on my blog, when the mood hits me, I have the freedom to come and go.
To pull up a chair and order lemonade or an ice cream sundae.
To either gobble it down, or eat it ever so slowly...

...until it melts into a concoction that resembles mushy milk.

Pull up a chair! Have a read. I hope you enjoy it.
I do...and that's what really matters.

Kid's Drawing Contest 2011

Perhaps this is of interest to you/your family:

2011 Junior Duck Stamp Contest

CALLING YOUNG WILDLIFE ARTISTS: 2011 JUNIOR DUCK STAMP CONTEST OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE

Young New Hampshire artists kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to submit original artwork depicting North American waterfowl to the 2011 New Hampshire Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest. The Best-of-Show winner will receive a $500 scholarship award, made possible by a grant from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. First place winners in the contest will be awarded cash prizes of at least $25. Entries are judged on both artistic merit and scientific accuracy with which specific waterfowl species are depicted.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department runs the statewide competition, which is part of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Contest of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The contest serves a dual purpose, giving students a chance to use their artistic talents at the same time they learn about wildlife and conservation. The art competition is open to public, private and home-schooled New Hampshire students.

Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2011. Competition guidelines, including dimension requirements and an entry form, can be downloaded from http://www.wildnh.com/Education/ed_Junior_Duck_Contest.htm, or contact N.H. Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest Coordinator Ellen MacNeil at the N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03301 or call 603-271-2461.

The N.H. Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest will award first, second, third and honorable mention ribbons in four groups: grades K-3; 4-6; 7-9; and 10-12. The State Best-of-Show is selected from among the first-place winning designs. Winning artwork in all categories will be displayed at N.H Fish and Game headquarters in Concord, N.H., in April 2011. The Best-of-Show New Hampshire winner advances to the National Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest, in which the three top winners receive a cash award and a trip to the adult Federal Duck Stamp Contest.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program is an integrated art and science activity developed to teach environmental science and habitat conservation. Teachers who want to integrate these lessons into their coursework can find a curriculum guide for teaching conservation through the arts at
http://www.fws.gov/juniorduck/EducationProgram.htm.

YOUR MEMORIES IN VISUAL MODE

Everything you see in your brain

is a bunch of random pictures,

captured in visual mode

for the rememberer to remember.

Until the not-funny Alzheimer's

sets in and begins to steal those

visual mode memories,

like a thief steals jewels.

Actually, memories ARE jewels.

Safeguard them!

Write them down!

Tell the next generation!

News-y Items (With a Touch of Reminscing):

I love many things, but two in particular:
I love to ice skate!
I have a white pair I bought about 10 years ago
when I figured my feet had stopped growing.
I've used them several times.
Once I brought them and my young niece to
Northwood Lake to ice skate in the portion of
lake that the snowmobilers had cleaned off.
After all the effort of putting a six-year-old's
ice skates on, she lasted about 10 minutes.
Still, a memory maker...a memory
I obviously haven't forgotten yet!
I also took my young niece to White Park
in Concord, and skated around the hockey goals
when she was a year younger. That was quite nice!
She lasted longer, unbelievably, for about 20 minutes.
My young nieces parents took the four of us
(excluding my hubby) to an ice arena in Hooksett.
That was really nice.
We skated, took a break, and skated more...
with a bunch of other enthusiastic skaters,
both young, old, and middle aged.
Yes, I've even gone by myself,
where I am free (as long as no one is looking)
to pretend I'm a dancing premadonna,
as I slowly get used to balancing
on a thin metal blade, and eventually
pick up some speed and do a few twirls,
before my feet cramp, my fingers go numb,
and I pack up my white skates for another winter,
or two...or more...

Christmas Break Skating (Thanks, Deb!)
UNH Whittemore Center Arena is having Community Skate Days to benefit the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, Wed., Thur. and Fri. Dec. 29, 30, 31 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.

$10 family rate or $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.  If you bring a donation to benefit the humane society you get $1 off with 1 pet food donation (per person) or $2 off the family rate with 3
or more pet food donations.

Another activity I enjoy is being a philanthropist.
I enjoy helping out, aiding, donating to causes.
One deserving cause is for animals.
In my lifetime I've had many,
but two species in particular.
Cats. Dogs. Once some fish,
but they were family 'pets'
that got flushed when they expired!
I never like to clean out the aquarium
because we had to scoop them up in a net
and I hated the feel of them wiggling
and gasping for air!

12 Days of Christmas/Soldiers Wreaths

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled us.
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens,
Swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now you know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.'

Merry (Twelve Days of) Christmas Everyone

CHRISTMAS AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Arlington National Cemetery

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the line has held, your job is done.

Rest easy, sleep well.

Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.

Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co.
Of Harrington,Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Rocking Chair Sits Still

The paper said she took her own life,
this woman - somebody's mother and wife.
What was so wrong that couldn't be fixed?
Could no one produce an answer from their bag of tricks?

The paper stated birth, parents and hometown,
but it did not mention her emotional breakdown.
How are her husband and children coping?
What are they praying, what are they hoping?

The paper said no flowers needed,
no final wishes - no donations pleaded.
Where will she lay? Who will visit her grave?
Angels accompany? Or devils misbehave?

The paper said she took her own life...
...due to illness, depression, or a life full of strife?

If we had stopped by more often, we think
if we held our breathe or never blinked,
if we sent more cards and placed a call
if we didn't drop the preverbal ball.

Would she have turned her frown into a smile?
would she have made her life worthwhile?
Would she have chosen to try anew
to talk to me and confide in you?

The paper said she took her own life...
due to illness? Or strife?

You shall be recalled at holiday gatherings
while your rocking chair sits still,
You shall be an example amid the family you left
to look, listen, and help those lost and bereft.

A CHRISTIAN'S PURPOSE IN LIFE

DO NOT STRESS OVER
WHAT YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE IS.
RELAX, AND BELIEVE IN THIS:

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
-‎1 Thess 5:16-18

REST EASY MY FRIEND,
THO' THE WAY IS LONG AND ROCKY,
FOR AT THE END OF THIS JOURNEY
IS THE HEAVENLY PRIZE...
...AN ETERNAL TEA PARTY WITH
JESUS, GOD, AND YOU ALL & ME!

Pack..Bring..Take..Remove

...Pack away the witches and the ghost mask...
...Pack away the pumpkins and hay stacks...
...Pack away the Halloween candy, out of sight...
...Pack away the fleeting Halloween delight.

...Bring out a cornucopia I made by hand...
...Bring out a thankfulness for family and land...
...Bring out the turkey and all the fixings, too...
...Bring the family to eat and men fall asleep.....
...like they usually do.

...Take out Christmas decorations one by one...
...Take out ornaments made by daughter and son...
...Take out the tree, the stockings, and presents...
...Take out the nativity and keep Jesus present.

...Remove the tree now shedding and dusty...
...Remove the fruitcake and dried and crusty...
...Remove the cards taped to the door frame...
...Remove the hoopla, but keep Jesus name.

BARE LEAVES & GLOWING TREE

Thanks to pine and spruce trees
we still have color in our landscape.
If I ran after the blowing leaves
I could stick them back on trees with tape!

Somehow that just isn't the same -
Oh! It's a shame when the trees are bare,
When you look for color outside
and through trees like they're not even there!

My only consolation in my misery
is that right around the corner I will see
standing in the corner where the recliner used to be...
...my super, duper, decorated and glowing
CHRISTMAS TREE!!!
